It was reported by the US Commission on International Religious Freedom, that religious freedom worsened in India, significantly. The Commission recommended targeted sanctions over the abuses. This is the third consecutive year that the US Commission placed India in the list of “countries of particular concern”.
The Commission pointed to “numerous” attacks on religious minorities, particularly Muslims and Christians. The Commission pointed to a “culture of impunity for nationwide campaigns of threats and violence by mobs and vigilante groups” and arrests of journalists and human rights advocates.
