Early In 2023, Pakistan’s domestic debt is projected to reach a record high of Rs. 55 trillion. It was reported that the government intends to issue additional debt totaling more than Rs. 5 trillion between December 2022 and February 2023, despite the fact that domestic debt will have already reached historic highs of over Rs. 50 trillion as of October 2022.
The government intends to borrow more than Rs. 4 trillion through Market Treasury Bills (MTBs) and more than Rs. 1 trillion through Pakistan Investment Bonds (PIBs) and Ijara Sukuks, according to the State Bank of Pakistan’s (SBP) auction calendar for projected borrowing till February 23, 2023.
