The New Zealand cricket team, called off of their Pakistan cricket series over a “security alert” minutes before the two cricket teams were about to start their first one day match at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said in a statement that “Earlier today, the New Zealand cricket board informed us that they had been alerted to some security alert and have unilaterally decided to postpone the series. The PCB and the government of Pakistan had made foolproof security arrangements for all visiting teams. The Prime Minister of Pakistan spoke personally to the Prime Minister of New Zealand and informed her that Pakistan has one of the best intelligence systems in the world and that no security threat of any kind exists for the visiting team. Nonetheless the New Zealand team withdrew.
Pakistan said that it will take this up with the International Cricket Council.
