Pakistan has exposed the recent #sanctionpakistan effort, that is being pushed on the international social media networks primarily by India. This aggression in social media has been there for a long time, given India’s disinfo labs expose by the EU, however the recent surge in anti Pakistan activity has been prompted by the US withdrawal from Afghanistan, with India standing exposed with its activities in Afghanistan.
Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry highlighted the fact that that the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (“PTM”) kept coming up in sweeps and scans of anti-Pakistan campaigns – these campaigns were being done at the behest of India and Afghanistan.
In a joint press conference with the National Security Advisor (“NSA”), Dr Moeed Yusuf, the Minister said, fake news against Pakistan is being spread on social media with “some of our own people are involved in this campaign at the behest of India”. He continued that the PTM, is instrumental in the trend on social media under the hashtag “SanctionPakistan”. The Digital Media Wing of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting had analyzed social media data of the last two years, which, highlighted that anti-Pakistan trends on social media are carried from India and Afghanistan. The PTM ran 150 trends and was behind 3.7 million tweets, majority of which emanated from India. The “SanctionPakistan” trend was tweeted 800,000 times. PTM was behind 30,000 tweets related to Karima Baloch and 10,000 tweets related to Usman Kakar’s death”. Some anti-Pakistan social media trends were sponsored by Israel as well.
