The Pakistan – Uzbekistan Trade Agreement is to be signed on 15th July in Tashkent. This will allow both countries in transshipment of their goods.
This signing of the Pakistan Uzbekistan Trade Agreement, which is a Transit Trade Agreement (“TTA”), is to be witnessed by Pakistan’s Prime Minister. The TTA will allow passage of goods, vehicles and drivers, in Uzbekistan and its border points with other Central Asian Republics (CARs) including rail and road. Pakistan will grant similar facilities except for India. Uzbeks can use our sea ports. The TTA will be governed under the Convention of Customs Convention on the International Transport of Goods under Cover of TIR (“Transports Internationaux Routiers”).
Uzbekistan already has a TTA with Afghanistan, while Pakistan has its own agreement with Afghanistan. Resultantly, this will allow easy flow of goods to and from Uzbekistan – Pakistan. , which implies after the agreement there will be smooth flow of goods, the sources continued. The first shipment under the TIR left for Uzbekistan via Torkham Pakistan on 30th April 2021. A Preferential Trade Agreement (“PTA”) between Pakistan and Uzbekistan is being finalized and is expected to be signed soon.
On April 14, 2021, President Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Prime Minister Imran Khan held their first Virtual Summit, in which they discussed cooperation in trade and economics, among other aspects.
