It was confirmed that the Taliban had captured Panjshir, which was the last province in Afghanistan to defy the Taliban. The Taliban flag was hoisted in the Governor Area.
The Panjshir valley is known for fierce resistance, especially under Ahmed Shah Massoud who was a Mujahideen leader. His son had taken over after his death earlier, but could not hold against the Talinan.
